mi camino…

I am a Puerto Rican, half cuban, artist that currently lives and works in the southeast of the archipelago of Borikén.

I am deeply connected to the natural environment that surrounds me. Guided by the mountains and the sea, my creative path is a poetic experience of projects that intertwine a variety of mediums, from plein-air painting, to installation with ceramics, and illustration art that find their way into my audiovisual compositions.

Welcome to Path - mi camino - where myth and reality meet, along with color and abstraction.

Bio.

Sofía Maldonado-Suárez was born in San Juan, PR (1984). As a Puerto Rican, half cuban, artist she currently lives and works in the southeast of the archipelago of Borikén. She creates poetic experiences and colorful abstractions on canvas and murals.  Her passion for natural environments and the ocean guided the storytelling of La Ninfaaa, a project about healing ancestral wounds by diving deep into your inner shadow in order to shine your light.

Maldonado Suárez most recent projects include working with clay, natural materials and diving into her inner silence, alongside with mythology and mesoamerican cosmovision. This new body of work also creates a sense of community by collaborating with other creatives and inviting the audience to participate.

Her work has been exhibited in the Whitney Biennale, Museo del Barrio Biennial and the Museum of Art and Design, New York; PST:LA/LA, MOLAA, California; the Bienal of Asunción, Paraguay;  CAAM, Gand Canary; the Museum of Contemporary Art of Puerto Rico; and the Havana Biennial, Cuba.  Maldonado-Suárez has been commissioned for murals projects by Real Arts Ways, in Connecticut; the Bronx Museum, PWC, Manhattan Community Arts Fund Grant and Time Square Alliance, in New York; Twitch HQ, in Los Angeles; Turning Arts, in Boston; the Ritz Carlton Dorado, T Mobile District, Foundation for Puerto Rico, and PWC, in Puerto Rico.
